Who We Are

Estuary Church seeks to be a collaborative community of ceremony, a studio of shalom, and a body of spiritual companionship. We aim to decolonize discipleship and take a trauma-sensitive, nonviolent approach to our faith to help repair ruptured relationships with the more-than-human world. Estuary Church is also an affirming body in support of the LGBTQ2SI+ community. We believe that people of any racial or ethnic identity, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, age, or economic status are to be celebrated and have gifts that are needed in all levels of leadership.

Co-pastored by Lee Kosa and Darren DeMelo, Estuary Church is in the early days of building, and growing. Read more about our evolving ethos.

Our Name

The name Estuary Church roots us in a specific place as we are located at the convergence of the Fraser River and the Salish Sea.

The Fraser River Estuary that lines the edge of Delta, BC is a rich environment that shelters juvenile salmon and migratory birds in its brackish waters. This dynamic ecotone (space where different environments overlap) offers shelter and nourishment for vulnerable and weary species.

Ezekiel 47 and Revelation 22 describe a river of life that flows from God's presence providing healing, nourishment, and abundant life. Estuary Church seeks to follow the flow of the Spirit in creating a generative, collaborative, and hospitable community that follows the way of Jesus.

The image in our logo is used with permission from artist Elizabeth Busey. It is a detail from Busey’s linocut Righteousness as a Mighty Stream. The title refers to the words of the Hebrew Prophet Amos (Amos 5:24) who gives voice to God’s desire for justice rather than performative worship.

Busey uses the deliberate nature of printmaking and collage to meditate on the natural world. Her work can be found on her website and on Instagram.
